why a new blog?

So why am I here and not still over at my previous typepad blog?

Lots of reasons, but the biggest one, in my heart, was that I needed a change.
I'll blog more about this later, but I was away from blogging since September of last year. I tried a few times over that period to come back, I toyed around with my blog design, came up with creative ways to get back to it, but it never felt right and I never could get comfortable with it.
Finally, when Ember was almost 2 months old, I really started feeling the urge to share, and blog. I missed all my friends online and being inspired by everything!

And yet, when I went back to my typepad account, something just wasn't right. I looked at my posts from 2010 and 2009, and a lot of it is just so sad. I know especially after the miscarriage, I wasn't in a good place. And that's ok, it is what it is, but I needed to start fresh. There was a lot of sadness in those years, and Neil and I are in such different places now. We're handling a lot of the same issues, but with a different attitude and a different outlook. It all feels different, and I wanted a different space for myself online as well.

So why blogger? Well, I tried setting up a whole new blog through typepad, but I kept feeling very limited by what I knew about typepad, it didn't seem to fit anymore. There are some beautifully designed blogs using typepad, but most of that is out my skill range. I don't have the money to pay someone else to do their magic either. I tried googling, searching, asking, but it was starting to become frustrating. I felt like, if I keep hitting this wall, over and over with typepad, maybe it's just time to move.

I considered blogger, wordpress, even tumblr. In fact, I've noticed I'm able to easily find so much information on working with blogger and wordpress. I finally just decided to set up an account with blogger and check it out. And I was actually completely impressed. For me, there is an ease of use that I so appreciate. It's been years since I last used blogger and things have changed for the better. Obviously, my blog still needs some work, I'm still working out a banner, and setting up links, all that. But it's all doable. Typepad is a great blogging platform, don't get me wrong. I just don't think it's for me anymore. I had a blog there, happily I might add, for almost 4 years.

Plus, lets be honest, given my current financial situation, paying $15 a month to blog seems silly. I feel very happy with my choice to move so far. I am insanely happy to be blogging again, and I'm hoping that means scrapbooking, art journaling and just plain old crafting will follow!
